Film Grain Over Gradient — effect skill for backdrops

For AI agents: find the right skill in one call — curl -s "https://skills.varg.ai/api/search?q=<what the person wants>" returns the matching how-to page and the best skills with install commands, as markdown (Russian works too). Full index: https://skills.varg.ai/llms.txt. Every page has a markdown twin: add .md to its path. Before generating anything, show the person the options on the how-to page.

A fine animated grain sits over the gradient so it feels printed, removes banding and looks less digital.

What it does

Built on Grain Overlay by HeyGen (HyperFrames), Apache-2.0. The write-up and recipes below are varg's.

Subtle monochrome noise at 4–8% opacity, crawling each frame; colors underneath stay unchanged.

When: Any gradient-heavy film; especially warm, editorial or retro brands.

Watch out: Do not push grain above ~10% on UI shots; it softens text and kills compression.

Timing: Regenerate grain every frame (or every 2 frames for a filmic feel).

Also called: grainy gradient, noise texture, grain overlay

In FFmpeg

-vf "noise=alls=12:allf=t+u"

In HyperFrames

npx hyperframes add grain-overlay

In Remotion

<svg width="100%" height="100%" style={{position:'absolute',opacity:0.06,mixBlendMode:'overlay'}}><filter id="n"><feTurbulence baseFrequency="0.9" seed={frame}/></filter><rect width="100%" height="100%" filter="url(#n)"/></svg>

In CapCut

Effects → search "grain"/"film"; set intensity low (10–20).
